Overview

 

What I achieve this unit is that I learned a lot on dictatorship and how they influenced on a country. For all of the research project, I chose to study about Prayuth because I want to learn about my country. As a result, I learned a lot about Thailand, such as red shirt and yellow shirt, coup, and referendum.  Also, we have to understand what is an authoritarian government in the beginning.

Why do authoritarian governments exist?

​

In some country, authoritarian government exist because citizen do not have the right to vote. In this form of government, authoritarianism is different from democracy because the government hold a central idea and doesn't give people the freedom of speech in a state. Under this form of government, there is no rule of law and have absolute sovereignty, meaning that not everyone has to follow the law and the government strictly control the people.

Can dictatorship be a beneficial form of government?

​

I think dictatorships should and should not disappear because there are both good sides and bad sides. First of all, dictatorship can create a stable country because the government is the only person that make decisions. This creates a stable base since the government doesn’t have to argue with groups of people. Also, dictatorships reduce crime rate due to a severe penalty for any violation against the law. However, since the government have unlimited power, they usually abusing power and causes deaths. For example, Hitler established 'fuhrerprinzip', which is the idea that his words are above all the law.
