Quarter 4

So this quarter we started off by studying William Shakespeare’s background. I think it’s good to know about the playwright first so we can get an idea who he is, what he did and why he is so popular. Reading in Shakespearean language is not an easy task for me; however, I learned the meaning of the basic words, which seemed to help somewhat. For instance, “thou” means you. We also completed an imagery collage that helped me to analyze the images of light and dark in the play, Macbeth. I also learned more about Macbeth’s character by doing a monologue presentation. After that, I wrote a creative letter from Macbeth about his hallucination at the banquet. his assignment enabled me to learn more about Macbeth’s point of view: what he thinks, what he sees, and what he does. In addition, I wrote a literary analysis essay on Macbeth’s visions and hallucination. This was actually what I enjoyed most because I got a better understanding of the play. Now, I could see the whole image of how Macbeth has changed throughout the play. I also learned about more about the plot of the story. One last assignment we had was a debate. I was a judge but I learned a lot from both groups. Together with my group, we created a thorough rubric and I could see how I might become a better speaker. For example, using a strong, persuasive quote to support your points is important. Last but not least, we had group reviews for four Macbeth tests. I think I am proud because I improved a lot from 2 to 3.7.

I think I want to improve in everything: writing, reading, and speaking. The most important elements, however, are writing and speaking, accordingly. One thing I think I can improve in my writing is my grammar. I also need to be more confident when I’m am speaking so that I can speak fluently. For reading, I think I improved throughout the play. At first, I didn’t even know how to revise for identification test because I wasn’t able to pick out key ideas. By the end of the play, I was able to understand the importance of each part of the play and got a 3.7. Because of this, I’m interested to read more Shakespeare next year.
