I. On Dreaming: The Great Gatsby
Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And one fine morning——
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past. (9.153-154)
Explain Gatsby’s green light and why he is not able to achieve it. What is your green light? Do you think it is possible to attain it or, like Gatsby, might it elude you?
Gatsby green light at Daisy’s dock is the symbol of ‘The American Dream’, which is also a part of Gatsby’s hopes and dreams. In fact, the green light appeared often in The Great Gatsby because it represents Gatsby’s physical and emotional distance between him and Daisy. However, Gatsby’s dream was unattainable because it doesn’t exist and Daisy would never give up social position for a person that couldn’t fit into her world. For me, my green light is to get a good result for SAT because it is the most important things at the moment. I think this is possible to attain it because I have time to prepare and trying really hard.
II. 20Time or Research Paper
You are, hopefully well on your way to getting your projects off the ground. Use sections from your proposal and first blog/annotated bibliography to give us a brief idea of what your project is all about.
How do you feel when you are in a group of friends and they start speaking in a language that you do not understand? Obviously, everyone wants to be equal and be able to understand the same thing. Non-Thai who take Thai class Berkeley are reluctant to speak and might be embarrassed to talk with Thai people. So, we want to teach Thai to Non-Thai student or foreigners at Berkeley. We believe that this will help strengthen the Berkeley community and enable our foreign students to enjoy their Thai experience so much more. Therefore, we design to make a class or make several tips for them to use in their Thai conversation. However, we might have difficulties in arranging time because we are very busy recently. Also, parents might be skeptical to leave their kids with us instead of a teacher.
III. Synthesis Essay
What does it mean to synthesize information? Briefly reflect on your experience with creating your own synthesis question. Was this more difficult than actually writing the paper? Where you impressed with the question you were given from a fellow student?
To synthesize is to write a discussion based on one or more sources. The writers will often take different pieces of information from different sources and write in his own word. According to my experience, I found synthesizing to be really interesting because I found myself learning a lot of different things on different websites. Perhaps, synthesizing is easier than writing a paper because I can get many ideas from reading. For example, I did a synthesize assignment about veterans getting back in the society and it wasn’t challenging at all. Therefore, I was impressed with the question that I was given from my classmate.
