4. Social ill/problem being protested- He is against the war in Iraq and doing what he has to do to survive not necessarily to support of the US cause.

5. Significance in history- This conflict is significance in history because this is why world were having war until now. Tom Waits said that they got trick from the government. As you can see from the quote “They fill us full of lies Everyone buys”. It is like the ISIS attack in Paris and might be the reason for Iraq war with U.S, which had a very unstable politic. Before in 2003, there is war between U.S. and Iraq. U.S. makes Iraq’s government weak, which causes ISIS that leads to the Paris attack.

He is saying about the only things that is important is protecting his life , he doesn’t want to die in war because he doesn’t believe what the government it telling him he should be fighting for.

This stanza show that the character is cold ,hungry, and doesn’t want to stay. He also said that he was tired. This stanza show that he is in winter to have war with Iraq and wanted to go back to his town.

3. Relevance

1. Trivia related to events, people, places- That time when people was having war at Iraq in 2003. U.S. army also went to the war war in Iraq to destroy the most dangerous weapon. That was the reason although there were no weapons of mass destruction as reported by the US government during that time.

2. Contemporary connections- For example in today’s world, we are still having war. For example, the war between ISIS and France. U.S. makes Iraq’s government weak and causes terrorist in today's world.

3. Reasons why you selected this song and/or musician- Because it has a really great messages to us, like a man sending a letter to his wife that he will return a day after tomorrow. The mood fits well with the message and also, they are telling about that nobody want to die, so no one wants war. He isn’t fighting for his country, but for himself to survive. He asked why god has to choose who lives or dies. Overall, it has a great story of protest. He is protest the government that are lies.
